Riverbend United Church (RUC) is seeking a qualified candidate with excellent piano skills and experience with choral accompaniment. This posting will remain open until a suitable candidate is found. Job Description: We are seeking a qualified candidate with excellent piano skills to play music for congregational singing every Sunday. Additionally, the candidate would rehearse with and accompany our RUC adult choir (approximately 25 singers) which is conducted by our music director, Paula Roberts. Rehearsals are every Thursday evening.
This is a year-round (12 month) position which supports our choir season from September through June, as well as our summer services (without our choir director) in July and August. Weekly choir rehearsals are on Thursday evenings from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. Our Sunday Worship Service is at 10:30 a.m. with choir warm-up beginning at 10:00 a.m. The accompanist will have approximately one Sunday off per month when our contemporary musical group takes over the music for the service.
Qualifications: Required skills include excellent music reading and piano performance skills as well as experience in choir accompaniment. Preferred skills include ability to read open score, chord charts, and familiarity with a variety of Christian hymns and music, as well as a degree or certification in music. Organ skills are also welcomed but not required.
Compensation includes:
A monthly salary for Thursday choir rehearsals (1.5 hours) and 10:30 a.m. Sunday services (1.5 hours). Note: Typically from September through June, the accompanist has the 3rd Sunday of the month off when our contemporary musical group leads the music for the service.
Additional compensation will be paid for Christmas Eve and Good Friday worship services as well as special evening events such as musical fundraisers or Christmas Carol Sing organized by members of the congregation and the music director.
Additional opportunities for the RUC accompanist (for an additional fee), should his/her schedule allow, may include:
- Worship services offered to 2 seniors’ residences in the area (approximately once per month)
- Weddings
- Funerals
