  Message from Valerie

Dear Friends,

This last Sunday of the Christian year is called “Christ the King Sunday.”  We get to ask the ultimate question: Who is Christ for me?  We consider the final hours of Jesus’ life, from John 18: 33-37:

Then Pilate … asked him, ‘Are you the King of the Jews?

… Jesus answered, ‘My kingdom is not from this world.  If my kingdom were from this world, my followers would be fighting to keep me from being handed over to the Jews.  But as it is, my kingdom is not from here.’

Pilate asked him, ‘So you are a king?’  Jesus answered, ‘You say that I am a king.  For this I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth.’

What does it mean to say Christ is king?  Jesus invites us into “the kingdom,” or in more inclusive parlance, into the “kindom,” where we recognize our kinship with one another and all living things.  He invites us into the realm of love.

I believe this “kingdom life” is our true home – a way of being that is eternal, rooted in something beyond this finite world yet fully moving through this world.  But what matters is what do you believe?  Who is he for you?

Join us on Sunday as we ask this ultimate question together.  And I hope you enjoy our land freshly blanketed in magical winter softness!

Valerie
