This week’s message

July 8, 2022

Dear Friends,

Please join us Sunday, July 10 at 10:30 a.m. as we once again worship with St Paul’s United in their sacred space at 11526 – 76 Avenue

This Sunday we will hear the familiar passage from Luke’s gospel when a teacher of the Law asks Jesus “what must I do to receive eternal life?”  Instead of responding, Jesus says, “what do the Scriptures say?” and the teacher replies with the words “love the Lord your God with all your heart and soul and mind and love your neighbour as yourself”.

In our worship we will explore what it means to love your neighbour as yourself and pose the question, who is my neighbour?

REMINDERS

· Thoughts on “sabbaticalfrom Rev. Tom Sawyer  One of our Judeo-Christian traditions is “sabbath.”  God created in six days but rested on the seventh, the sabbath.  Once in a lifetime (lives were shorter then), there was a sabbatical of sabbaticals when seven times seven years passed (49) and the fiftieth year was considered a jubilee year when debts were cancelled and people started fresh.  As part of this tradition Rev. Valerie Oden is able to piggyback a 3-month sabbatical on to her month of holiday to return refreshed in November.  She has well earned her break having guided us through the trying Covid pandemic.  Valerie, enjoy and refresh with our blessings.

· Pastoral Care Rev. Tom Sawyer & Dr. Joanne Olson are available for pastoral care while Rev. Valerie is away.  Please call the Church office at 780.430.7275 to leave a message for them.
