Lenten Journey 2026

Seeking: Honest Questions for Deeper Faith

Worship during Lent will follow the Seeking theme from A Sanctified Art (a group of artists and theologicans), shaped around a focus question each week.  Most Sundays will also include a Meditation Moment led by Graham Gaine, and our Care Coordinator, Holly Ruryk, who may invite us into simple, seated stretches as a way of grounding our faith in our bodies.  You are warmly encouraged to join us, either in person or online for this meaningful season of worship.

Our Lenten journey begins on Shrove Tuesday, February 17 with Pancakes at 5:30 p.m. followed by a Service of Ashes at 6:30 p.m.  This quiet, contemplative service invites us into humility and reflection as we begin Lent together.

Throughout the season, we will explore these questions of faith:

  • How do you find the quiet centre?
  • How do we begin again?
  • How do we find the living water?
  • How were your eyes opened?
  • Can these bones live?

The Spiritual Formation Committee has also prepared a rich Lenten journey this year, offering a variety of ways to engage your spiritual life.  See some of those ideas below, there truly is something for everyone, follow whatever calls to you.

  • Lenten whiteboard:  For Lent this year, we are using the resource Seeking: Honest Questions for Deeper Faith from A Sanctified Art as a starting point as we travel with Jesus towards the cross and the empty tomb.  As part of our Lenten journey you will find a whiteboard in the narthex with a “seeking” question written on it.  There will be a new question each week of Lent, and we encourage you to reflect on the question and, if the Sprit moves you, to write your answer on the whiteboard.  The question for the first week of Lent is, when you seek the quiet centre in your life, how do you achieve it? The whiteboard will be set up for our evening of Pancakes & Ashes on Tuesday, February 17th.
  • Lenten Daily Companion: For this Lenten Season, a daily companion for the congregation has been created by Carolyn Miller (thank you, Carolyn), titled “Walking with Jesus, Following His Ministry“. Click here for a copy of the companion which covers the 40 days of Lent (Monday to Saturday), beginning on Ash Wednesday and concluding on Holy Saturday.  Each day will include either a scripture verse or detail some of the routes Jesus walked and follow, as best as it can, the chronological order from the beginning of Jesus’ ministry to his body being laid in the tomb.  In both cases, there will be a daily question to ponder and reflect upon.  Friday’s emails will include a link to the companion, and a few printed copies will be available in the narthex.  We recommend using the online version as it includes links to some LEGO animations of the scripture stories.
  • Sunday Morning Lenten Study:  Beginning February 22, we will meet Sundays at 9:30 a.m. in the Chapel to discuss Rise: An Authentic Lenten Devotional by John Pavlovitz.  Sign up in the narthex to order a copy for $10.00.
  • Lenten Daily Steps: Set a personal daily step goal for Lent.  If you’d like to join a WhatsApp group for shared accountability, let Valerie know.  These “steps” can also be done seated with arm movements, or through minutes of meditation, walking is optional.
  • Lenten Daily Cards:  These daily devotional cards, created by A Sanctified Art, align with our Seeking theme and include daily reflection questions.  Printed packets will be available in the narthex.
